I'm three months pregnant. Due to a work back injury, my most comfortable sleeping position is sleeping on my back. Is this safe or okay for the baby?

Oh yes! I sleep on my back along with my side and stomach. Look into getting a pregnancy pillow then maybe you can sleep on your side and be comfortable! Congrats!

Sleeping on your back won't be a good option once your uterus grows larger because you won't be able to breath very well - the uterus will press against your lungs. The best position to sleep in when you are bigger is on your side with a pillow under your belly and between your legs. If this isn't ok because of your back then you may need to consult a physio for a suitable position. Perhaps you will need to prop yourself up but you would need really good back support in the right spots or you will be very uncomfortable in the morning. I had carpel tunnel syndrome towards the end with my 3rd pregnancy and I couldn't stand being on my side. I had to sleep in a supported upright position with a pillow behind my lower back so I could have my arms and hands kinda hanging down. Carpel tunnel syndrome is way worse at night time for some reason.

I had the same problem when I was pregnant. Alot of people say its bad to sleep on your back, but my OB assured me it is extremely safe. The position I felt most comfortable in was sleeping on my side with a big long pillow (body length) so that I could put my leg over it and sort of cuddle into it. I could not have survived all three of my pregnancies wthout it.
Good luck

It's safe for the baby, but it can cause you problems, especially once you get a little further along. Mostly because the baby will be putting pressure on nerves and arteries can cause circulation problems. See about getting a pregnancy wedge or some good pillows to help you find a better position where you're leaning more towards the left instead of on your back. :)

At three months it should be safe because your weight gain shouldn't of increased enough to cause decreased blood flow to yur baby but maybe uou should try to elevate your right side a little with a pillow to increase the flow to pur baby. I wouldn't worry to much I just had a baby a month ago and i would go to sleep on my side and wake on my back everymorning.

Get one of those body pillows-snuggle up to it on your side and put the bottom part between your legs-I still love sleeping like that after 3 kiddos. As far as safety-I would think that, first off sleeping on the belly would be totally uncomfortable-second, that whatever is comfy for momma-go for it.

Its totally safe to sleep on your back, it might get uncomfortable in your later months to lay completely flat, then you could prop yourself up a little on a few extra pillows.

my dr said that i could sleep on my back just get a towel or thin pillow and barley place under one side of your lower back. they say that sleping fully on your back sometimes cuts off oxygen to the baby because of certain veins and stuff. i am 31 weeks now and i sleep owever i can get comfortable, lol!!

i heard sleeping on your left side itll give more circulation to the baby. when i was pregnant both times i had to lay on my left side because if i was on my back my bloood pressure would shoot up i guess the way my body is my kids were on my ciatic nerve. and when i was pregnant with my son i was sleeping and i rolled on my stomach felt him moving and never did it again.
