Well having a little trouble following the information but
Basically to setup a router. You connect from your machine to the router with an eithernet cable.

(Check to be sure your computer is set to DHCP) You can do this from Control Panel, Network Connections, Double click on Local Area connection. On the screen that opens go to the bottom and click on Internet Protocol/TCP/IP be sure the check boxes say use DHCP and obtain DNS Automatically. Click ok and close out all those screens.

Then open a web browser and in the address bar type
http://192.168.0.1 you should reach the configuration pages for your router. Most will be almost automatic but some arent. You may need to enter your Username and password in order to connect to Bell South (I think they require that I know SWB/ATT does)

Once that is done you should connect. LAN is local area network (thats your compuers) WAN is wide area network (thats the internet).
So the DSL/Cable modem has to connect to the WAN port of your router - in some routers the router itself is the modem so a DSL line connects to that side.

Re-read the setup directions I bet you find the answer.

while you're only doing to desktops the least perplexing way that i think of is for you to get a 2-in-one situation so it has a finished of five ports one for the modem cable to plug into the different 4 are for desktops to plug into. Then there ought to be an antenna so as which you will connect on the spot instruments however the only capture is for you to establish the on the spot community your self whether that's not that problematical. wish this enables
