My favorite bank incident in this regard occurred several years ago at a First Union bank. While standing in a long line on a Saturday -- which was the only day my job allowed for me to get to the bank -- I noticed a sign that read, "For our customers convenience, we will no longer be open on Saturday."

They are part of "the system," and you won't have any privacy there. Anyone who thinks their valuables are safe in a "safe deposit box" is under a delusion.
One phone call from an attorney and it's "frozen," and the same thing can happen to your bank account.
Banks are okay for small amounts for the sake of convenience, but beyond that, they're a joke.

I used to work for Bank One...now Chase Bank and what I can't stand is that they are trying to make all of their money from the fees they charge. They even told us this in training that it used to be 30% from fees, and 70% from investments...they want to flip it to 70% from fees and 30% from investments. My advice...stay away!!!
Instead I bank with USAA and there are no fees, no hidden fees and not only is everything free, but they automatically refund all ATM fees...I don't have to submit receipts or anything. They are the only nice bank out there, but most people can't join since you have to be military.

Yes I do. I hate waiting in line, I hate how they nickel and dime customers to death with little hidden fees everywhere, and I hate that when I go inside I am on like 20 different security cameras.

They are suckers. Their interest rates are so low yet they take $2 a month from me for "administrative" charges. If my account balance dips below $200, they'll take away another $2. I am the accountholder, so why the freak should they care how much is left for me?! And if they keep taking 2 bucks from my already dry account, what's left!
Oh, and the queues are a killer!

Free checking. Free bill pay. Interest on my savings and checking. As long as you stay away from loans and credit cards, I think that banks are pretty useful.

Miscellaneous charges for 30 cents that show up on my account statements for no reason. And with no discernible pattern.
