This is one of the 5 R's involved in troubleshooting your iPod. The instructions vary based on your iPod model. (I own a 5G).

For all the iPods except either the old and new shuffles, the reset is actually a two step process:

1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off
2. Press the center and menu buttons at the same time and hold until the Apple logo appears.

Trust me, it does work. I have had to do it several times. The link below explains how to do the rest of the 5 Rs if resetting your iPod fails to solve your issue. Good luck.

Depends on what kind of iPod you have, but generally you can just press and hold the Play/Pause button and the Menu button at the same time until the Apple logo pops up. If that fails, Apple has a very decent support page:

hold the menu button down until u see the logo,if u dont see it keep trying i hate when that happens!!
