It's probably a power-saving technique, and you can probably adjust it. Mine does the same thing, and I prefer a much brighter screen and a faster-draining battery. At least I can use the computer while it lasts!
I'd check my computer's manual (if you have one) or software for settings.

This happens because the laptop adapts itself so that the battery comes that much longer...You may have an option to set the mode with which the laptop should work (ie with what brightness, hard disk speed etc. should the machine work when on AC power and when on DC ie battery). Brightness is one of the parameters which determines how long the battery power can drive the laptop.

You should use battery power as little as possible. Unlike the rechargeable batteries in cell phones, laptop batteries wear out very quickly with continued use and are expensive to repalce. Use AC power whenever possible.
Th computer will try and reduce power consumption when on battery power. Its a normal function.

It's a power-saving feature. Most come set up that way.
But you should be able to edit the profile (there are at least two different profiles, one for when you're on battery power, one for when you're plugged in.)
Depending what type of operating system you are running, the way to access the profile will vary. If you can tell us what type of OS you have, we can probably give you more specifics.

Don't worry buddy. It is the case with all laptops. It is common. When your laptop is running on battery the display will be little bit darker when compared with when it is running with power connection. This is from my personel expierience. If it is very dark, then take your laptop for service. I think you don't need that.

That is completely normal.
The computer automatically lowers the brightness of the screen in order to conserve battery power.

Dell has taken particular laptops back because of defective batteries. examine w/ Dell and ask them what to do, they could deliver you a clean battery, or you should save it on fee each of the time. or maybe basically employ a clean computer for now, until eventually u get it resolved.
