Work experience at a local theatre would only get you selling popcorn and cleaning where the audience sat later.
You want to have experiences to help with taking on many and varied roles while keeping it interesting. (and your parents would want it related to some office work to give you an advantage for after school)
Two Suggestions:
1) CASTING DIRECTOR: there is the boring filing and phone calls for appointments, but you will see an insider's view of how auditions for acting parts are decided on and how other actors present themselves to land a good role.
Other types of work with them is during auditions, just keeping track of the clip board of who to call in next while you see interviews, call backs and test filming for the parts.
2) Multicultural Centre: You can see many and varied people to get more ideas of how to portray different roles. It is probably contacted through your local council. The work may be office stuff, but the clients come from all around the world

RE:
Where should I do my year 10 work experience?
I have to do work experience for a week at a job of my choice. I have no idea what i want to be when i leave school, so I thought I'd just go for something fun and interesting, but I dont want to do one of the usual boring after school type jobs.. like video store or fast food place. Anyone...

Hi, i know how you feel... it was a while ago but i ended up with a job for work experience that i hated!! It's taken me a long while to figure out but my advice would be to think beyond the literal - if you like drama and performing, maybe you could try something like crewing or staging work that lets you be around your interests. Working in a theatre is another possibility or even teaching drama... anyway, it's a few suggestions. Took me many years to figure out what i wanted to do, hope it helps...

Hi Gemma- depending on where you live - is there an art gallery or craft supplies near enough to you. Also a library (if you like books). Is there a supplier (even a wholesale house) of make-up and skin care? All of these would give you a chance to explore the drama/performance job market as you will meet people who already work in that area. Good Luck - Frances

Unless your really interested in doing a certain job in the future e.g lawyer or something.....then try out a law firm....otherwise its a good opportunity to score a great job somewhere. Why not try your favourite clothes shop or work at a company of a brand that your really into.

Hey Gemma how about work experience at a private tertiary drama or sound technology college ! both of my sons did this and got a great inside view of how to prepare for the industry ... theres always some paperwork they need a little help with but both of them went to classes with existing students or helped students mix music etc ..Depends which city you are in I guess but it gives you good contacts for later too !!What about a casting agency??

hi Gemma
you should ask at the most unusual place you can think of
maybe the movie theatre
or a real theatre were they put on plays
or try something totally different an aged hostel or something you may never think you could do
( i believe every one is capable of doing or being more than they think )
if you try something totally out there you may be surprised by what you can do
either way go for it
good luck

Music, art and drama don't have there own careers that you can do at work experience. Unless you could work in a school and look at teaching one of those subjects. Otherwise your options are really limited to music stores etc. Find a career that interests you. Law, teacher, hairdresser, beautician ..................
