The League Cup currently sponsored by Carling is a knockout tournament played between all the teams in the English League, that is the Premiership (EPL), the Championship and League Divisions One and Two. The League Cup Final is normally played in March or early April.

The Winner's of this Cup this season were Chelsea.

The League Cup is not considered to be the major knockout tournament, that is the F.A. Cup. However, the winners of the League Cup do qualify for the UEFA Cup as long as they havn't qualified for European football through another competition (Chelsea will qualify for Champions League through their placing in the EPL and so will not fill the slot in the UEFA Cup granted by them winning this years League Cup)

The English Premier League is the top division of the English League, consists of 20 teams that play each other twice over the course of each season that runs August thru May.

Manchester United currently lead the EPL with 9 games remaining this season.

Winners of the EPL qualify by right for the Champions League.

The League Cup (currently called the Carling Cup) is a knock-out competition which is open only to the 92 fully professional teams in the Premiership and the Football League ( Unlike the FA Cup, which is open to all clubs at all levels). Chelsea beat Arsenal in the final a few weeks ago.

The EPL League Champions are the winners of the EPL, in other words the team who finish top of the EPL at the end of the whole season, with each team in the EPL playing 38 league matches..

As stated the EPL is a league whose winners are determined over 38 games.

The league cup is a small knockout tournament sponsored by Carling and is really a token cup imo.

Winning both gets a European spot, but the EPL gets you the diamond a place in the Champions league

Winning the EPL is the top priority followed by the FA Cup and then The League Cup on the domestic scene.

Obviously there are exceptions where promotion is what is fought for when not in the EPL.
