Does Joss ever let us in on what Blue Sun is all about, why Inara left Sihnon, or what's up with Shepherd Book's past?

Bretski...uh, no it doesn't. Have you even *seen* the series?

redunicorn...awesome! I've watched all the commentaries and missed that about the sun on Jayne's shirt. I also missed that it was on the commercial that triggered River in Serenity...that's what was confusing me the most was that there was all this leading up to Blue Sun to be big in the movie, and then I thought it was something totally different that triggered her. Thanks!

In the television series Firefly, the Blue Sun Corporation is a large, diversified corporation (or possibly Megacorporation), compared by creator Joss Whedon to a combination of Coca Cola and Microsoft. The company is broadly hinted as being less benign than either of those two companies, and plays a role more comparable to that played by Weyland-Yutani in the Alien franchise or Omni Consumer Products in the RoboCop franchise.
In the few instances when River Tam exhibits bizarre or violent behavior, Blue Sun is involved. In the episode "Shindig", River rips the labels off cans bearing the Blue Sun logo, and in "Ariel", Jayne Cobb is wearing a Blue Sun shirt when River slashes him. The writer of this episode confirms in the director's commentary on the DVD set, that River was, in fact, attacking the "Blue Sun" logo on Jayne's shirt and not Jayne himself.
Blue Sun's place in the grand scheme of things was one of the plot points that was not explored in Serenity. However, the Blue Sun logo is visible in the film. The Blue Sun logo is marked on cargo crates in Serenity's hold. In one scene Jayne also drinks from a blue bottle with the Blue Sun logo on it. There is a Blue Sun in the background sky of the "Fruity Oaty Bar" commercial, the commercial which contains River's trigger and causes her to attack the patrons of the Maidenhead Bar, and at least one bottle with a Blue Sun logo can be seen in the bar.
In an interview reproduced in Firefly: The Official Companion, Volume One, Whedon confirms that the two Blue-Hand Men worked for Blue Sun.
[edit]Origins

The name Blue Sun may have its origin in the Darling Violetta song by the same name. This song was performed in the episode "Faith, Hope & Trick" of Joss Whedon's Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Darling Violetta also provided the theme song to Buffy spinoff Angel.

No, no, and no... but Summer Glau has stated that she knows what Book's secret is, leading to rumors of a sequel... which doesn't seem likely at the moment. A miniseries on TV seems to be the most likely choice next... but Joss Whedon is going to write a new comic miniseries due out next year or late this year...
