My wife and I are considering taking a summer trip to Dubai and Abu Dhabi. What are some good restaurants, attractions, techno/dance clubs, etc.? Where do most of the expats hang out on the weekends?

Answers from people who have actually spent time in either city and know what an expat is would be good.

I'm due to head to Abu dhabi to visit my Sister and family ... haven't been there for 20 years since playing in a tournament.

Short answer, i don't know specifics.

Starters: try http://www.tourismrankings.com/Dubai/ for the City Tourism Authorities suggestions.

Next: some expat boards for UAE:

http://www.dubaiforums.com/
http://www.dubaiexpat.com/

Nothing like speaking to a local.

And lastly - places you could stay on a UK website for Dubai

UAE:http://www.cheaperthanhotels.co.uk/United-Arab-Emirates/
Dubai:http://www.cheaperthanhotels.co.uk/United-Arab-Emirates/Dubai/
Abu Dhabi:http://www.cheaperthanhotels.co.uk/United-Arab-Emirates/Abu-Dhabi/

You will probably find a few folks pretending to be rich at the Burj Al Arab Hotel: http://www.cheaperthanhotels.co.uk/United-Arab-Emirates/Dubai/Jumeirah-Beach/Burj-Al-Arab-Hotel-Dubai-L25137H.htm

Hope you get some good inputs

The world's biggest hand-loomed rug, the fastest roller coaster, the best large tea, the tower with the maximum slim, the biggest bunch of national houses of the 21st century that is what you would be in your holyday at Abu Dhabi therefore start making airplanes with hotelbye since this town is waiting for you yourself to give you an wonderful holyday. Abu Dhabi is just a town that is not afraid to problem world documents, is an exciting city where nothing stands still. One of the areas must see in Abu Dhabi may be the lovely Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. The mosque fuses Mameluke, Ottoman and Fatamid style things to produce a harmonious and thoroughly contemporary mosque that remembers Islamic architecture. Artisans utilised glass-work, mosaic tiling and elaborate carvings to spectacular influence on equally the inner and exterior. It had been opened in 2007 after almost twenty years of construction and has the capacity to hold 40,000 worshippers. Is the largest mosque in the United Arab Emirates.

I do not have in-depth knowledge of Dubai, but have been an expat in Abu Dhabi for over three years.

I love Abu Dhabi. My only concern is that it will be incredibly hot and humid during the summer. This is the time that most expats return back to their home countries. Please check out the summer weather before you commit to a summer holiday here. Abu Dhabi is a fantastic destination for the cooler months of the year.

Abu Dhabi has just been declared the Richest City in the World. It has an incredible choice of first class restaurants, nightspots, luxury beach hotels and some very good golf courses.

All of the Five Star Hotels have fantastic restaurants attached to them and are licensed. This year Ramadan falls towards the end of September for one month. This may affect opening hours at Hotels, nightspots etc. Restaurants that aren't attached to Hotels, don't normally have an alcohol licence.

For up to the minute information on nightclubs and events in Abu Dhabi I recommend Time Out Abu Dhabi www.timeoutabudhabi.com

All of the Luxury Five Star Beach Hotels have beach Clubs. Downtown Hotels will normally have an outdoor pool, but not access to beaches. It is possible to get a day/week membership of the Hiltonia Beach Club at the Hilton International Hotel. This Hotel is set right on the corniche and is very pleasant.

If you can let me know what type of Restaurants you enjoy eating at i.e. Thai, Italian, Lebanese, Indian, or whether you want to know about the Pubs/Champagne bars etc then I will reply back with a list of my favourites. As said earlier, summer is too hot for most and so the normal buzz/atmosphere in restaurants and bars may not be the same as in the cooler months. Also it won't be possible for Al Fresco dining as it will be too hot in the evenings to sit out.

Taxis in Abu Dhabi are reasonably priced and readily available. There are Limousine Standard Taxis which normally wait outside most of the major hotels or the 'local taxis' which are slightly hair-raising, but much cheaper. So you won't have any problem getting about the City of Abu Dhabi.
