the general should be fired. ALL gays in the military should resign immediately ... and leave the ridiculous battle fields of Iraq to the straights. That would leave the army about 15,000 fighters short immediately. Why would any Gay man join the military? They have shown time and time again that the military is hostile to our lives, so I say F u c k them .... there are better ways to earn a living...and certainly safer ones. To those who say, "you have to defend your country," I say to them, "you make it only YOUR country, a land where Gays are unwelcome...so defend it yourself". Good luck

I think it depends on what capacity he was making this statement of hate and bigotry. As there is a policy "Don't Ask/Don's Tell", I would wonder if he has broken some rule in-which that would seem to be asking.
Either way he is a hateful ingrate that my taxes have been supporting during his time in the military. And I would like to seek remuneration from these bigots who don't represent me. Those are my taxes .. I may as well have a say in the matter.
You are right, DBD! I've never heard of the old fart until this past weekend. Why do I care? He's all washed-up anyways!

I think he is entitled to his opinion, and should be able to voice it. While I do think that I also find it somewhat sad when people think they are so pure and holy that they can decide what is and isn't moral between consenting adults. It's too bad that people in power who think so highly of themselves will influence large amounts of people to think the way they do. I think it's ridiculous to keep any person out of the military for a reason as lame as their orientation, especially right now when we need all the people we can get. All I know is if I was in the army I would tell everyone I was gay and encourage all of the other homosexuals in the army to do so. I would also encourage any potential recruits who are gay to not enlist. Then what would the army do with this shortage of tens of thousands of soldiers? Opinions are something we are all entitled to, but I also think basic rights like "marrying" the person you love or enlisting in the military are things all people are entitled to.
Before people get mad at me for my boycotting the army speech I'd like to say that it would be purely to show the value of the gay army population. I understand many people have a great desire to serve their country, and I have the utmost respect for them.

That goldwing.. person has a good point. There's a deed-creed discrepancy going on here similar to when the Blacks were fighting in WWI and WWII... fighting to defend a country in which they had no rights. How much sense does that make? I also think all the gays in the military should resign immediately. Let them send some more of these homophobic rednecks over there to die. Sounds better to me.

i think he was out of line.when people say they want the troops to come home we get blasted with "your not supporting the troops"and told "negative remarks affect the troops moral" think about this the news said there are 65,000 gay and lesbian troops in the military serving in step with the straight troops the bullets, road side bombs and grenades don't know who's gay or straight they are a equal opportunity killer so i would think that makes the fact that one member is gay and one is not a mute point but when this man said that about his personal feelings about gays what does he think it did for their moral to know that they can fight and die right beside everyone else but their commander thinks they are less then their straight counterparts?as for the don't ask don't tell rule it a backhanded way of letting people that would otherwise be cast aside join a military and fight for freedoms that they themselves don't even have.i would think that every man and woman that thinks the gays have no business in the military need to sign up and take their place are they ready to put their life on the line for this country? i don't think there would be a huge rush of people do you?

Of Course I disagree with his comments. I am not immoral for something that I biologically can't help. Homosexuality isn't a moral issue. It is not fair to judge someone because of there sexual orientation.
Well how does being homosexual hinder a person from doing their military assignment.

Homosexuality is no more immoral that invading another country and killing their civilians is it? And to think hes a General. Ho hum, what an old fart he is, that's why America never wins any wars,it's because we have old farts like Pace leading the charge, from way behind of course. Do you realize America has only won 1 war and that was the civil war. How can we win a war with old farts like Pace leading the charge.

First off, I think Gen. Pace comes off as an out of date oaf. One of the old guard that can't seem to break out of that misogynistic military mentality.
On a personal level I'm able to ignore what he said because his words no longer affect me personally.
But, on the other hand, it upsets me that today's military personnel are being subjected to such backwards and unenlightened thinking. If anything his words break the camaraderie and moral of the military. Those words bring up feelings of distrust of your fellow soldier/sailor, it only makes for more tension, anxiety and suspicion....just when these men and women serving our nation need it the LEAST!
We're still in a war here!
Our men and women of the military need to hear words of unity, camaraderie...words that will bolster their moral not tear it apart!
More men and women of our armed forces have been kicked out of the military since "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" than in the ENTIRE HISTORY of the US Military!
Gays and lesbians have ALWAYS served and will ALWAYS continue to serve!
We do so because we feel it's our duty as CITIZENS to serve our nation, to do our duty to our families, our neighbors, our country.
We do not enlist to find new sexual partners or spouses...to think that way is simply ridiculous and inflammatory.
I support our troops 110%, just not their commanders.
Oh and just an FYI: Gen. Pace DOES NOT HAVE FREEDOM OF SPEECH, his life is OWNED by our government, only THEY tell him when he can speek or not, and what he may or may not speek of.
Freedoms are for CIVILIANS not for soldiers. Anyone who's ever been in the military will tell you the same thing!

I think it's terrific that...
It is finally newsworthy and people are outraged by such comments. The moral zeitgeist is constantly changing, and we can see, despite the pleadings of the evangelical religious leaders, that we are moving in the right direction.
