while in rare cases this can work, it usually just ends in serious injury to one or both fish or death.

females are usually great together as long as there is enough room (2gallons per female) and a good amount of plants. also this works best it there are at least 5 females, numbers as low as three can work, but 2 usually results in one being dominant and attacking the other.

males shouldn't be kept with other bettas, but can usually be kept with peaceful tropical fish that don't have flowing fins and aren't aggressive.

Yes, however there are a few guidelines to follow;

1. All bettas, male and females are territorial. So plenty of space is needed, 2-3g per fish.

2. There will be some fighting, provide plenty of plant cover and hidey holes for the fish. The male could pick on the females or he may not and the females will fight for dominance. If they have a safe place to run too there won't be any casualties. Have extra tanks ready to move them too if they get really nasty, also Melafix will help the injuries heal.

3. For some reason you need 3 females at least Most people say 4-6.

Good luck with your community tank, I am about to try a 12g tasnk with 1 male and 3 females. hopefully all goes well. I have backup tanks to remove them too if there is any serious violence and my Melafix if someone gets hurt.

Yes,you can. you don't mention if this a betta-only tank or a community tank. Even in a betta-only tank,you can put in more than one female,but only one male,unless you use a divider to keep the males apart. Watch for bullying. If the female doesn't accept the advances of the male,he may kill her.

If you want them to mate Betta prefer still water. You need to have foliage for the female to hide in/under. Otherwise the male will attack and eventually kill. A nice small cave of some sort will do nicely. It's the 2 males you can not put together they will fight to the death.

yes you can...you can put as many females as you want in one tank as long as there is only one male.if you notice any bubbles forming at the top of the tank its because they male is ready to mate with the female

No. I have had luck with two females in one 10 gallon tank, but that was based on their personalities. Others would fight.

I think it's better not to risk it, but I'd say a good place to find the answer would be on the Fish 4 Tips website.

at first no, don't put them in the same tank. but, you can put a clear (plastic or glass) divider between them in the same tank so they can see each other. when they stop being aggressive towards each other take the divider out and they will possibly spawn. hope this helps...any more questions just ask!

Only when the male builds bubble nests which is a sign that he is ready to breed.

I think the female has to be a certain color before you can put the male into the same tank.

Go talk to your local pet store. They should be able to help you with this one.
