All matches involving the Australian cricket team in Australia are broadcast on the Nine network.
When free-to-air (FTA) networks choose not to cover matches involving the Australian team overseas, pay TV networks have the opportunity to obtain the broadcast rights.
Before the advent of pay TV in Australia, television coverage from many overseas tours did not occur at all. If a FTA network chooses not to broadcast the event, Cricket Australia would prefer pay TV coverage for Australian cricket fans than no coverage at all.
While some people may be opposed to having to pay for the right to see the Australian cricket team play overseas, pay TV has meant that television coverage is far more accessible than was the case before pay TV.
