My beloved Old English Sheepdog was 13 when my first child was born. She was fine until baby started toddling and twice snapped at the baby. Then I was offered a position on the other side of the country. I left the dog with my husband who had never been a dog person.

Poor Lucy failed without me. Finally we discussed that he would take her in to be put to sleep. She was old and there was nothing else to do. I had, however, no idea when this would happen.

One sunny afternoon I was in the playground with my baby. She was toddling about and I was sitting at a picnic table. Suddenly I felt Lucy with me. I would swear I felt her cold nose on my cheek. Without thought my arms were up and around an invisible dog as I hugged her as I had so often. It was silent. I felt her love and forgiveness. I felt her fur. I felt her saying good bye and loving me the way only a good dog can.

It was in my heart that i felt these things. I visualized where she went when she departed after this and felt complete emptiness the moment she was gone. The sorrow I felt was as real as can be and I knew my sweet Lucy was dead. I cried all afternoon because I felt such guilt for not being with her in the end. I know he just took her to a vet and left her there to be "put down". I feel guilt for very few things in my life, but this is the strongest of them all.

A few days later I asked him if she had died at such and such a time. He told me that was about the same time as he had taken her in to the vet's. I knew then that my Lucy had come to say good bye to me. Like all fine dogs, she sensed that I would feel guilt and paid me a last visit to put me at ease. You know how any dog tries to comfort a sad person they love.

Oddly, I can still remember her like yesterday, 26 years after that day. I loved that companion so deeply. I still do feel guilt about that.

My oldest son has the ability to see animals and people from beyond that have passed. He has even perfectly described animals I had a a child he never knew about. Myself and other 3 children can do it to but not as good as he can. When an animal runs away he can tell me if they've died or not. He will see them in our house, as if they're saying to him I'm ok and you need not worry where I am any more.
My daughter and I were out shopping the other week and we heard a kitten cry twice in the store, we looked all around and ffound nothing, then the next night we heard the same pitched cry again at home. We haven't had any kittens since a rescued young cat delivered one and it died the next morning only 6 months ago. My daughter and I think it was the soul of that kitten.
I could tell you about over 100 or more events that have occured involving animals from our past. I happy for one thing, all our pets that die always come home even if they couldn't in person when alive and it makes me feel so happy to know their around.
A kitten I saved at 2 days old after my then 2yr old (10 now) found the litter, she dropped this one and caused it to have a stroke. My oldest son came to me crying asking me to do something, so with all 4 of my children looking at me, now all crying, I gently blew a few breaths into her mouth /nose and carefully did a few chest compessions, it worked. She however had to be dropper fed until her teeth came in weeks later. She was completely paralyzed on her left side and needed help to use the litter pan even. She went with me every where, then on day at 10 weeks she suffered another stroke. I took her to the vets and he told me she was visuall and hearing impaired, to take her home and give her TLC, so I did. She got physical therapy 3-4 times daily and learned to walk on her own, she could hop like a rabbit to run and climb stairs. She couldn't jump on your lap though. She would run the opposit direction when you called the cats for food, so we called from the other side of the room and she'd go to the bowl. The vet fixed her at 6 months and was amazed she was still here. He did say give her TLC so I did. She loved her nightly outings until one night when she was 11 months, I got frightened by a very large wolf hybrid snapping and snarling and ran inside. All my cats ran under my house, but I guess my little Smokey didn't and she never came out from under the house with the rest. 2 weeks later a neighbor boy found her mangled body in the woods by that hybrids house. We never did get to bury her for when the boy took us there, she was gone, but there was a lot of blood and fresh tracks (large). Well another 2 weeks goes by and I'm in the kitchen and my husband in the living room with the window open and he saw Smokey come in. He quickly got up to follow, but she vanished. He swore it was her and even though I never saw her, I do believe him. I had a calming sensation come over me. My son has since seen her in the house. I honored her by using her nickname of Wolfinator as part of my ID on the computer. See we had our own female wolf hybris that was very sweet, but she knew dog + cat = claws to face. She was dubbed our little wolfinator from that day on.
