...that i will not may not make it as an actress. Though because it is something i love and it is my passion I am going to go for it and try and see what happens. I do have an education i am pursuing right now just in case the acting thing doesn't work out but, because i want to live in my hometown (San Antonio,TX but just ofr a while) I was wondering if there are ways to become a well-known actress even though i don't live in LA or NY. I am eager to try and pursue my dreams but because i don't have much money i wouldn't be able to get a nice place in Los Angeles and all that i've heard of violence and gangs and what not makes me think that its not a good idea for me. Surely there are famous actresses who didn't live in NY or LA and made it big. Could i just try and get a agent here in SA or even in LA and i just save up money and fly out there for auditions until i'm ready to move there or tape them on video and send them to casting directors? Does anyone have some helpful advice?

Hey Hello,

Your first response was very nice and respectful, and seemingly knows about the scene. I like to encourage people to go after their dreams, and for you I wish you the best. You are correct about living in LA, high price and dangerous. You should get all the experience you can local to where you are. You need an agent, and here are some sites. They may be able to find you employment prior to going to NY or LA or even local commercials, plays etc.

Well, I'll be honest ... it's difficult to become an actress even in the big markets of NY and LA. However, Texas does have it's own smaller market as well, so not all hope is lost.

Your best bet would be to do some research online and find out the name of some of the agencies near you ... remember, NO agency will EVER ask you for money up front, or force you to get pictures from a specific photographer, or pay money to be featured in their "book" ... (that last one, there are legit agencies that do have books, and you do have to pay a yearly fee to be in it, but you don't have to put a picture in it if you don't want to.)

There are loads of great resources for you. You can try this website:

http://bbs.backstage.com/eve/forums

It has great people who are mostly willing to help new people with questions and advice and such. There are some people on that board too who are from Texas, and will be able to give you more information about that particular area than I can.

Find out the legit agencies in your area and try to set up meetings. In Texas, it may be easier for you to get a manager, who then will get you in the door to see legit agencies, but just remember that the manager AND the agent get a percentage of all money that you make from acting (the agent gets 10% and the manager gets 15%). You say you are young, but not how young ... if you are under 18, then a parent or legal guardian must accompany you to these meetings, and to most auditions that you have. Also, getting an agent in LA is not advisable for you unless you are willing to go to many auditions in LA on short notice ... your best bet would be to stick to an agent in Houston (or San Antonio, if there are any) and stay there until you are successful enough and have enough money to support yourself out in LA or NY.

And yes, there are some big name actresses and actors that came from Texas. Eva Longoria is from Texas, Matthew McConaughey is from Texas, and (I don't know how old you are, but if you watch the Disney Channel) Madison Pettis from "Cory in the House" is from Texas. I'm sure there are plenty others as well, these are just the ones that I know off the top of my head.

In the meantime, get as much experience as you can ... community theatre, acting classes, high school plays, anything! The more experience you have, the better!

I wish you luck in finding an agent and pursuing your dreams!

you would be able to desire to already be in performance at employer. to boot, you opt for appearing training, making a music and dance training. My cousin moved to CA to be a comedian, and sport abode saddened. he's a lawyer now. I attended USC and UCLA, each and each properly faculties for actors, and exact, there have been toddler actors in attendance as good as young infants of actors. So, the jobs are allotted by way of skill of nepotism. yet finally, you will write performs and take part in in community theater and demanding in appearing or journalism. Modeling could desire to be very difficult. you would be able to do catalog modeling while you're tiny, and if now no longer tall, skinny, with an oblong face particularly commonly won't artwork on runways. yet if your hands are acceptable, you are going to be a hand form. you would be able to do shows akin to vehicle shows, while you're properly at persuasion and seem properly. I wish you to hold close that there are a number of scummy men and ladies human beings on the planet who will take your cash for pictures or swear they are able to get you a place. yet actuality be stated, if there is not any longer something on your resume, and likewise you may desire to no longer have a properly-liked relative, and a acceptable notch character, build, education, you are going to grow to be as a lonely bartender or white slave if youin case you bypass to la. i replaced into as quickly as there for 4 years. There are sturdy nasty men and ladies human beings, now conventional actors, who I encountered on the comparable time in employer and on the sea coast. enable's merely say, it is not for the faint hearted. although, take your appearing, modeling, dance, voice, gadget training. it may help get many unique jobs different than being up front. you would be able to direct, run the digicam, do interviews, edit the close by tips. So, amplify your thinking, and artwork difficult.
