An ocean is an intrinsic part of the wave and so is the wave an intrinsic part of the very ocean, as they are one, and in oneness there is no question of bigness and smallness, is there?

Both, depending on whether we are talking about the body . . . or the mind.

The body, which includes the physical brain, is a part of the universe. In essence, the universe is the sum total of everything physical, and insofar as our bodies are physical, we are a part of that whole. From the perspective of the body, if the body ceased to exist, the universe would continue. But if the universe ceased to exist, the body would also cease to exist. So from the body's perspective, we are a part of the universe.

But if we are talking about the mind, then the universe is a part of us. Anything that we experience is a part of the mind, as the mind is the witness of all experience. If not for mind, the universe would never be experienced, and from the mind's perspective, that is the same as saying it would not exist at all. Indeed, as far as the mind is concerned, matter, the body, the brain, all exist only because we experience them, and if we did not experience them, from the mind's perspective they would not exist at all. So from the mind's persective, if the universe ceased to exist, the mind could continue, but if the mind ceased to exist, the universe would also cease to exist. Thus in this sense, the universe is a part of the mind.

So we are both a part of the universe, and the universe is a part of us.

Lots of different answers to this question.

Some think of god the ultimate creator and therefor we exist in his universe (if you consider you own something because you created it)

Or, we could just be the sum of our atomized parts in which case if you consider the universe as the existence of all things, in a since the universe is part of us

Well Technically we are part of the Universe and the Universe is part of us. Reason being we are long decedents from Adam and Eve. Adam was created from dust, that makes us part of the Universe. When we die we go in the ground and turn back to dust that makes the Universe part of us.

We are a rib of god (an ideal )
You will not understand what you are timely, only posthumously. Even with constand care you can't escape stupidity!
If you lay meanings into the significance of yourself, you made an attempt to kill your modesty!
If you are a man of no scruple, you will be leered enviously by "the virtue followers": they want your advantages!
You can't get by in life with your virtue, all virtue sare sham! I venture to affirm and believe that everything without exception is meaningless!
With a systemless mind, I define the universe as time and event, the origin of time is known by Buddha.
You can't get somebody's favour with humility, you will use Buddha's understanding of nihilism.
Don't have the sense of honor, of happiness, of glory, of need... then you will never be provoked, you are Buddha!
