Gundam Seed Destiny is a continuation of the story of Gundam Seed, kind of like Gundam ZZ is a continuation of the story of Zeta Gundam.

Gundam Seed was aired first and Seed Destiny is its direct sequel. It is important that you know the events that transpired in Seed in order to understand what is happening in Seed Destiny.

Here is the brief description of the two:

SEED: The series begins in Cosmic Era (C.E. 71) with a war between Earth and the colonies. On one side is the Earth Alliance, and on the opposite is the space colonies that form ZAFT (Zodiac Alliance of Freedom Treaty). Mankind has evolved into new forms through genetic engineering, with normal humans known as 'Naturals' and the genetically altered known as 'Coordinators'. Kira Yamato, a young civilian Coordinator who dislikes war finds himself being a Gundam pilot. At first forced by circumstance to fight his own people, Kira now finds himself in the middle of a war between two genocidal governments.

SEED DESTINY: In Cosmic Era (C.E.) 73, two years have passed since the end of the Earth-ZAFT War. Although a peace treaty was signed, the development of new mobile suits continued. The story focuses on 16-year-old Shinn Asuka, a Coordinator who joined ZAFT after his family was killed during the invasion of Orb in C.E. 71. The fragile peace is broken when three Earth Alliance operatives steal three of ZAFT's newest model Gundams. Shinn and the crew of the battleship Minerva are sent into action to retrieve the stolen Gundams. However, the Gundamjack is soon overshadowed by a new tragedy that plunges the world into another war between Naturals and Coordinators.

My advice, be sure to check the title first before attempting to record something (anime titles especially the ones with sequels can be very confusing if you are not familiar with them, researching online also helps but be sure that the sites you go to are reliable and not fan speculations.). That would save you a lot of time worrying whether you recorded the right thing or not.
