It is probably best for you to study programming and also Graphic Design or CAD (Computer Aided Design.) There are several programs on the market that are pretty expensive such as Maya, Zbrush, Gmax, 3DStudio Max, etc. I reccomend that you start of with something free and small like Milkshape 3D. Read as many tutorials as you can or I can send you some videos or something and you will be on your way.

Hi Payal,
You are in 12'th and hence I feel you have enough time to train yourself in the field of animation.

Companies involved in animation prefer Vis Com students (Visual Communication) than any other stream.
I am a B.E graduate with Diploma in Multimedia but was not able to get a good job in animation because of this reason.

So, if you are serious about a career in animation then go for B.Sc (Visual Communication) as a part of your college.

After joining college, may be you can start in the first year itself - to go for any courses in animation like start with photoshop then coreldraw, flash etc;

After that deceide what field in animation you want to go:

a. Is it Web development -- developing websites / web portals etc / software you need to learn: photoshop, dreamweaver, flash

b. 2d animation -- developing 2d cartoons / corporate presentations / Web based training etc / software you need to learn: photoshop, flash, coreldraw, illustrator

c. 3d animation -- -- developing 3d cartoons / character designing for movies - games etc; / software you need to learn: 3ds max, maya

d. programming (flash / game programming) -- developing 2d and 3d applications through programming / coding websites / web portals etc / gaming / flash actionscripting etc; / software you need to learn: programming knowledge like ActionScript, Jave, C++ etc;

e. Mobile application development -- this is a new field where you will have to develop mobile applications .. it is mostly programming in Java

f. graphic designer -- developing brochures / cards / web layouts etc / software you need to learn: photoshop, coreldraw, illustrator, flash

g. post production / video editing etc; -- this is more interesting field .. it involves video editing for movies / serials / advertisement etc; / doing animation effects in movies / advt mainly -- -- / software you need to learn: Avid, After Effects,

You cannot work on all the fields. So, choose one among these which you believe that suits you better.

During college final year, do some real time projects. Approach companies and ask for projects - you will have to either do it for free or for low cost, then only companies will give you projects.

These projects will be handy when you go for interviews.

All the best!

it depends on what kind of animation that you want to study:

flash
traditional (i think that's drawing)
clay animation
3d animation
etc

well, i'm studying flash animation right now in my school (2nd year, 14yo) and i think that if you want to there are workshops that can help you, o r maybe you can just buy books which have pictures on them for you to understand it better. and if you want to self study, you can just see some tutorials provided in youtube, they help.

traditional animation, many workshops offer tutorials, but some are quite expensive . ..

hope this helps
