well, you need to get used to people, so i'd say you should participate in things that are out of your comfort zone. i take a theatre class at my high school, and he makes us all do something, we always have to participate. so, i think thats what has helped me, i used to get REALLY nervous in front of people too..
you should take a few acting classes if you can or participate in community theatre, being nervous is normal, you'll grow out of it. contact me if you want to talk or discuss this further..
:]
good luck!

I acted and sang in school. I was starring in a musical where I learned the part backward and forward, along w/ everyone elses role; but when it came time when I was to perform I opened my mouth to sing and nothing came out. This event could have been the reaon I would no longer pursue what I excelled in; but a friend of mine gave me tip to keep from being so anxious: She told me that if I was qualified to perform there would be no reason that I could not carry it off- unless I concentrating more on what people wre thinking of me then my craft. After that and few more tips along the way, I found I could do what I was Born to do. Be the person you are portaying- you don't have to act out yourself.
If you are suppose to act like a person who is frantic it's o.k. because it's not real- it's acting out a role completely oblivious to your own.

Also, you find a lot of shows picking up on giving actors their break to accomplish their dreams.

Nervous is good. It shows that what you do matters to you. The thing to learn is how to focus on what your character is doing at every moment so that you as an actor will not be focusing on people watching you. Go through the script and find out what the character wants and then determine what that character is doing to get what she wants. Every action taken by the character is in pursuit of that goal. Focus on that and the nervousness will not be such a bother.

I used to have the same problem with shyness. Start small... perform in front of some of your close friends first... not a large crowd. Then just eventually step up from there... also as you get older eventually you'll probably over come your shyness... Just take little steps at a time... hope everything works out for you.

The stage lights make it nearly impossible to see the audience any way. Just go for it. Take the whole group outside about half an hour before the show and "kill the audience".
Some one gives a pep talk, then the pep talker screams "What are we gonna do?!!!!"
Then the group screams back, "Kill the audience!!!!!!!!!"
Repeat.
At the end, the talker screams "Lets get fired up".
The group then screams back, "We are fired up!!!!!!!!"
Repeat.
This should calm everyone down and get a good healthy adrenaline rush going.

I found acting to be easy when you learn how to lie better and believe it everyone else will to.
you have to become that person think to your self how would they talk how would they respond to this moment
and I found that I wouldn't be nervous in front of a lot of people if I looked at the people with out seeing them and It taught me to be more free in front of them
this is what I do I stand in the mirror and look at me and learn to glaze my eyes over I see my face but I don't focus on it. and that is how you look at the people when your on stage with out really seeing them and you will get sweep up in the feeling of the the acting and get lost in the moment and every one will say your a get actor I grantee this

Try taking acting classes or public speaking.
Get use to talking in public.
Start by standing in front of a mirror and getting comfortable with yourself.

PRACTICE! Take classes and audition for local plays. The more you do it, the easier it becomes. I had stage fright when I first started out and now I've done over 25 plays in addition to indie films and music videos!

you should think of it this way. imagine someone else acting. you dont make fun of them. so if you were to act why would they laugh at you.
as a good actor once said
"one can only make the audiance if you believe in yourself"
i will not tell you who said that.
but it is deep beyond all reason.
remember, your family is always going to be there for you
if they arent, friends will.
