Nitrogen, oxygen, sulfur, and iron are paramagnetic as atoms, as each has electron configurations which has unpaired electrons (N is 1s2 2s2 2p3, O is 1s2 2s2 2p4, S is [Ne] 3s2 3p4, and Fe is [Ar] 4s2 3d6).

Calcium and argon are diamagnetic (Ca is [Ar] 4s2, Ar is [Ne] 3s2 3p6).

Except calcium and argon, all other are paramagnetic...

Paramagnetic means atoms having unpaird electronis in their orbitals.

Ca........3s2 3p6 4s2

N.........2s2 2p3

O.......2s2 2p4

Ar...... 3s2 3p6

S........3s2 3p4

Fe .....3s2 3p6 3d6 4s2
