Actually sounds exactly like my daughter.(also 5 mos.) The only exception is occasionally she will wake up to eat, for about 20 min. in the middle of the night. She can't stay awake for more than 2-3 hours at a time. I think it's totally normal. Congrats.

0-3 months: 14-16 1/2 hrs
3-9: 14-15 hrs
1 yr: 13 3/4-14
2: 12 3/4-13
3: 12-12 1/2
4: 11 1/2-12
5: 11
those are the total average sleep time per 24 hour period. the manner by which the child gets that amount doesn't matter as long as the average is within the right range. My 18 month old sleeps 10 1/2 hrs at night and takes one 2 hour nap. it sounds like your daughter is getting the right amount of sleep. Also when they are going through growth spurts they sleep a little more

My 4 a million/2 month previous sleeps 8-12 hours a evening plus approximately 4-5 hours in naps. i do no longer recognize if that a million/2 a month older quite makes a difference. i recognize infants quit taking as many naps yet longer ones as they become previous yet i do no longer recognize while that happens. So, i might say between 15-17 hours? some infants could choose greater sleep than others.

Wow, how lucky are you? My daughter , who just turned 12, when she was that age i couldn't get her to sleep. As a new parent i was concerned as you are now. I talked to her doctor, and her answer was quite simple. Babies are motivated by basic needs, sleep, food, needing changed, etc. she will let you know what she needs and or wants. As far as sleeping goes, I think you'll be fine. If the eating habits are the same and shes is happy, no need to worry. Enjoy the down time while it lasts, as she gets older you'll need the rest.

Babies need all the sleep they can get. Size wise you grow more in the first two years than you do the whole rest of your life.
It's totally normal. I promise. But you can always pick up a copy of "What to Expect the First Year." or speak with your pediatrician at her 6 month check up. Actually, if you wanted to you could call up and speak to the nurse about it tomorrow, if it would make you feel better.

as long as you know she is breathing she is fine. Use the time to do things for your home and self. Just check and see she is Ok. Babies are known to sleep alot at that age. soon she will be a firecracker running around and tipping laundry baskets. It is cute

Sounds about right to me. Babies regulate themselves on the sleep thing. And at this stage, she does need a lot of sleep.

you may check with your baby's doc, but I'm sure he/she will tell you that it is normal, some babies sleep more, some sleep less. the same goes with eating.
