I was given some lovely towels for Xmas, but recently they have started to feel very harsh against the skin, Soaking them in lots of fabric softener doesn't seem to help! I really don't want to buy a whole new set, so any suggestions would be welcome!

put a cup of vinegar in the rinse water, and just normal dryer sheets in the dryer, and make sure they arent packed into a washer or dryer thats too full.

I have the perfect solution for you, first you use White Vinegar in your rinse cycle about 1/2 to 3/4 cup to a medium to full load of washing, your towels will come out soft and odor free and they will be disinfected by the vinegar also as Vinegar is the worlds best disinfectant, you can use this solution every other load if you wish or just when you like, vinegar will also clean the detergent residue from your towels which is makng them hard and scratchy and clean out the tub in your washing machine. Now for another idea you can use Hair Conditioner on a washcloth in your dryer to soften your clothes and towels just as you would use a dryer sheet, this works inexpensively and much better than a fabric softner sheet, you first take the washcloth fold it in half then put a dollop of Hair conditioner on the half and then fold over once more then throw that it with your clothes and dry on delicate cycle only not hot ever this will harden the fibers in your clothes and towels and make them scratchy. Good Luck

Wash & tumble dry a few times with NO fabric softner. I only use dryer sheets sometimes when drying towels.

They are actually retaining too much fabric softner...soak them in a solution of vinegar and water for a bit, it will clean out all of the old soap and fabric softner. (it works for your hair too) and then wash as normal. I bet you'll be surprised! Good luck!

throw a couple of new tennis balls in the dryer with your towels and they will make them fluffy again
