my computer restarts after some time. I've used Grisoft, Avast, AVG and MacAffee to check for viruses. Found some high risked files and deleted them all, but still restarts. Next, I used certain programs to check for rootkits. Still didn't fix the problem. Do you think it is still a virus problem or a hardware problem? What should I check to troubleshoot and fix the problem(i.e. heatsink, cpu speed/temp, mem, etc.)?

Just guessing but it sounds like something is updating and then restarts the computer. You can go to start and go the control panel and then go to security and turn off the automatic updates. Try that for a day or so and see if that's what the problem is. Good luck.

Hmm, unfortunately, any number of things could cause shut down. First, check your event log to see if something caused the shut down. Start menu > control panel > administrative tools > event viewer. Check for warning markers in the lists.

Next, download speedfan

and use it to monitor temperatures and voltages. Spikes in temperature or variances in voltage can cause a shut down.

Next, run a stress test using Burnin Test.

If faulty hardware is causing the problem, you might be able to force the failure to isolate the faulty part.

It might be caused by a failing power supply which is hard to diagnose. If you have access to a spare, preferable higher wattage, you can replace it temporarily to see if that fixes it. Also if you have alot of devices being powered by the 12v rail (hard drives, optical drives, graphics card, etc.) you may need a PSU with higher amps.

One of your peripherals may have a faulty connection causing a short. Disconnect them all. If that solves the problem, add them back one at a time. If you find one that causes it, try it in a different port to see if it's the device or the port itself.

You might also want to run a system file check. Pop your Windows disk in the drive, open a command prompt and run
sfc /scannow
It'll can take a few hours.

Good luck.

Your problem most probably not hardware related . Most probably it's due to virus.
firstly unistall Gris-oft, Avast, AVG and MacAffee and borrow new copy of AVG with firewall .
and change your system Confi Utility( click run and then type MSCONFIG and in startup tab and remove the program which you feel useless)

Other option:
Install new copy of window SP2 and Install new copy of avg with firewall.

Best of Luck

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
