I'm an electrical engineer in the Ivy League. I expect my starting salary would be close to 80,000 a year. I have a friend starting as an electrical and systems engineer for a large bank in NYC, he's starting at 93,000 but that's because he really impressed them when he was an intern. Conversely, I have another classmate who is starting in a small firm (less than 15 employees), he is starting at 64,000 but they are making really cutting edge stuff so his salary should climb steeply over the next few years and also his company has amazing benefits. For non-Ivy applicants, it should be around the same because honestly the salary difference is not that big, maybe a difference of between 1,000 and 5,000 dollars a year, but hey, if you're starting at 70,000, you shouldn't be complaining anyway. Electrical and Systems/Computer engineers solve insanely difficult problems, I think we deserve to be paid a lot especially after the suffering we go through to get our degrees.

Also redunicorn, I think you gave the wrong link, yours was for engineering managers, here is the one for engineers:

I'm an engineer. Computer engineers do not make a lot of money, due to the dot com bust a few years ago.

There are many different types of engineers. You have to be specific about the type of job, industry and location.

www.Salary.com is a good place to start.

According to CNN Money, civil makes $44,999 a year for starting salary, while mechanical makes about $50,672 a year for starting salary. The source lists the top degrees in term of starting salary, and how much each has. But, if you go for engineering simply because of the money, you will have a really, really hard time. For example, mechanical and aerospace have "fun" with mechinal physics, and thermal, aero, liquid dynamics, and various other crap. EE folks have their share of fun in E&M physics, circuits, and some programming. CS/CE folks got programming. ChemE folks got chemistry. BioE folks got biology. Also, no matter which engineering you are in, you will have to finish a lot of math and physics too. I gave you the numbers. But if you are considering civil engineering because of it, like others suggest, you should reconsider.
