Oh, I did much worse than that my freshman year of high school. Of course I was already working, and "socially maladjusted" doesn't begin to describe it. That's a B average, which will get you into plenty of schools, it just won't get you into an Ivy or get you a really good scholarship. But really, that's not a bad average.
There is time to bounce back, though. No need to give up, yet. Your SAT scores, your extracurricular activities, the amount of improvement you manage to do- all of this matters. Plus, for a lot of scholarships, there is an interview aspect to the application process.
My suggestion would be to set your sights on the school that you want. Find out what their requirements are, and then strive to meet them. Have a plan B, though. have a second string of colleges you wouldn't mind going to, if your first choice doesn't pan out. Then, you might always transfer later, if your grades improve markedly in college. (This happens a lot, actually, since you're more likely to be taking the classes you actually care about.)
If for some reason you mess up worse later on in High School, there is still hope. Go to a junior college then. Just for a year. Once you do that, your High School grades cease to matter at all.

I don't know what others are talking about but 3.2 GPA is not good at all. In fact, it's just barely over the minimum GPA requirement of 3.0. However, the good news is that it will not affect you in applying to UC schools. That's because UCs only count sophomore and junior year classes (see link below). The admissions office still has access to your entire transcript but for all intensive purposes, freshman year GPA does not count. You can breath easier now but make sure you pull it up. Also talk to your school counselor about taking AP and honors classes in the future because those are real GPA boosters as long as you do well.

I don't know who these people are answering your question.... I'm pretty sure they aren't speaking from experience.
I had a cumulative 2.8 GPA and got into a University. I didn't even meet their GPA standard. I tell you this because there are ways to get into schools if you mess up.
1st a 3.2 is Awesome!
2nd colleges look that you improve in grades over time, so as long as you get better grades over time you will be fine!!! I am sure of that.
3rd you will have a chance to explain any low points in your entrance essay
4th if you are really worried about it make sure to get high SATscores, good rec. letters, and that you participate in extracurriculars. These things make up for lower GPAs.
Don't worry! You are doing Fantastic!

Your freshman year counts a lot towards your college admissions - you have only freshman, sophomore and junior years, plus maybe a quarter of senior year for colleges to evaluate - so it is possible for freshman year to hurt your chances. However if there is significant improvement in 10th grade, it won't count as much.
That said, a 3.2 GPA hardly counts as "messing up."

MIT is a reasonably aggressive college, so while you're neck and neck with somebody interior the top and that they pass back and look at all the extreme college archives and that they be conscious that the different guy or woman did significantly extra appropriate freshman 3 hundred and sixty 5 days you will in all probability no longer get in. yet there is not any harm and attempting and perchance you will locate yet another super college if MIT dosen't paintings out...
