I don't have the greatest memory except at academic things. I don't remember to many personal things, so a picture is worth more than a thousand words for me because without them I would forget all the good things that have happened in my life.

I really do think that a picture is worth a thousand words because when you look at a picture, whether its of a friend or a famous painting, it is what you see in your mind. What another person is seeing could be something totally different, so you use your WORDS to communicate what your interpretation is. There there may even be millions of thoughts running through your brain, and you have to find just the right words to explain what you are seeing.

Of course it depends on the picture but the right one is worth much more than a thousand words.

Depends on the picture. When my mother takes a picture, she cuts everyone's heads off, or it's heads only (just from the forehead up) with a lot of ceiling. That doesn't quite work well for saving memories.
Now, let's say you have a picture of a beautiful island sunset as your leaving a port from a cruise ship with a drink in your hand... Or say, you take a picture of damage done to your property for whatever reason, & it's covered by insurance, that's worth some money.

Human race learnt words long after understanding the pictures. An universal message can be conveyed by a picture, something where words fail. Language has limitations. Two people can't understand each others words unless they speak the samelanguage.

Suppose you are trying to speak to someone who does not understand what you are looking for, but then you have a picture of it.....that saves at least 500 words maybe 1000.
Suppose you are looking for a person and then you find a good photo to show....it saves time and words...worth a 1000

If the picture is real, then yes it says much. However with today's technology that picture can be manipulated to say anything you want it to say. In that case the picture is worthless propaganda. If you, under those circumstances substitute the 1,000 words, who is to say those words are not propaganda also? The lines between truth and reality have become so indefinite, we no longer can believe what we see in photos or read. Thank you technology for turning clear waters into mud.

A picture is worth more than a thousand words, it speaks for a moment in time ad infinitum.

Worth a thousand words. I like photography. I'm not a photographer, but I enjoy the photography exhibits in museums. Some photographs convey moods that can't be conveyed in any other medium.
