It has recalls, known-issues, and 'flaws' of each car..

I dont think you have anything to worry about, the only 'known' problem with accords were their transmission, which was apparently resolved with the 2003 model... Anything 2004+ should be great (not that 2003 is a problem)

My mom owns a 2000 accord and its going very strong

Actually, i think the only flaws are the tires... if i remember correctly, they give you tires that arent very good for the 240HP it has... lots of noise and loss-of-traction (but still not a 'flaw')
