Most people either perceive things in a positive manner, or negative manner.

The glass is half full.
The glass is half empty.

but what about when someone looks at the glass and simply sees a glass with some water in it?

The glass contains water.

Is this kind of neutrality an unhealthy way to perceive everything in general?

I could ot agree more with you.If you take a test called Keirsey s personality test, you will find out that people are grouped in four big and 16 subgorup categories. People high in judgemental group are organized but also and always get to a conclusion of any sitution. YOu should check that site out adn find out what you are.My guess is that you are more of a perceiver then a judgemental perosn. No one is perfect but we should learn to understand each other more.

Isn't seeing something with liquid in it a perception? If you have two bulbs in a lamp and one goes out, is it still light or only half as light as it was? It's entirely your perception.

If you have a negative view of things depend on your standpoint. Someone might say that half a light is better than reading by candle light...and someone else might say that they cant read at all once the sun goes down.

You could have also said "the glass is missing some water"

So that wasn't really a neutral statement

Well, the glass does have water............ This nature shows - "play the safe side". In my native language its called "A CAT ON THE WALL" - it can jump either way. Its healthy anyway

Not unhealthy at all, but shows thinking that lies outside of the box. That is a very good thing.
