My SO has a high fever. She was really cold earlier but is now really hot to the point of tossing her comforter to the side. Should she be under and stay hot or is this a good sign? I keep telling to at least cover her feet. She's got a big headache to go along with it and is currently using a cold rag for her forehead. Only meds she's taken is Sudefed PE Severe cold

I am a nurse so I hope this helps you out....If she has a fever that high and is not allergic to Tylenol you can alternate every two hours with the Mortin and Tylenol. Say you gave her her Motrin at noon, you can give her Tylenol at 2pm and another dose of Motrin at 4pm and Tylenol again at 6pm. There are no interactions between the two and they are safe to take this way. I would skip the the Sudafed PE for now and try this. Often times meds like these are not strong enough to reduce high fevers because they are designed to treat multiple symptoms and not just one.

She can pretty much suck on Pedia Pops all day if she is not eating food or drinking fluids. However, make sure that she drinks water and as much as you can get her to take. The Pedia Pops are not a medicine. They are to replenish nutrients in the body when you are sick and unabloe to eat. They provide the body with these nutrients as well as electolytes that help to balance out your or the babies system. They can help her stay hydrated and may even help the fever go down, but that is it. the cool baths and compresses will help too! I would talk to her doctor and see what he/ she may have to say also. If she does get worse or the fever will not drop after the Tylenol and Motrin you may want to bring her in to see the doctor. She can get dehydrated very easily with a fever that high. Hope this helps and she feels better soon!

Any one with a fever should never take Aspirin. It has been associated with Reyes syndrome even with adults, first thought only with kids. She can take Motrin, and then a couple of hours later take Tylenol. Staggering the doses can help keep the fever down. Only take as often as listed on the bottles though.(every 4 or 6 or 8 hrs) She needs to stay UNCOVERED, people always want to cover up, but that keeps the heat IN. She needs to drink plenty of clear fluids, water, Gatorade, popsicles, jello, anything you can see through. Don't mix Sudafed like drugs with Tylenol or other cold medicines, cause they have Tylenol or Motrin inthem sometime. Acetaminophen, Ibuprofen are generic names for them. Headaches go along with fever, so see how she feels when the fever comes down. When in doubt, check with a doc, or go to ER. But temps can go up for a variety or reasons, it's the bodies way of fighting off infection. Be active in your own health care (and theones you love, check with docs when unsure)

Take tylonal or IBprofen as bottle instructs and stay under the covers. Being hot means the fever is breaking the more she sweats it out the better.

Fever is not a good thing and can be extremely dangerous if it stays above 102 degrees. Assuming she is not allergic, she should take aspirin and the next dosage should be Tylenol. Keep alternating until the fever breaks.
