I am 14 and 6 feet tall and I have been playing center all my life, even though I have handles. In High School, do you think I will still be playing center at 6 feet? I also only weigh a little over 140 pounds because I have a very fast metabolism. I have tried muscle milk, but that stuff tastes really gross. So how much weight do you think I should gain? I am more of a soft center who only goes inside sometimes, but who shoots and makes mostly outside shots and threes, I'm kind of like Al Harrington..advice?

I know exactly what you mean. I was 6'0" tall at 14. I grew 4" before the next school year and by my sophomore year of high school I was 6'6". You can still be tall and have handles. I was always working on my jump shot and ball handling everyday. You can be tall and be able to shoot from the outside. It will be hard to stop you if you have height and can shoot from the outside. I would say if you grow and want to be in the post, hit the weights hard this summer. It makes a huge difference. If you hit the weights hard you can easily put on 20lbs of muscle. Best of luck.

At 14, you should grow a couple of more inches so you could possibly still play a center or forward position. But to "hedge" your bets, you might want to work on your ball-handling over the summer.
If you want to play inside with the rest of the "big guys", you might want to consider working out with weights this summer and putting on some muscle - the BEST kind of weight to gain.
Playing "in the paint" is simply a matter of footwork and knowing how to use your body. Strength also plays an important part as well as desire.

All you NEED to give is all you HAVE to give.

again the misconception of bulking up. Wilt Chamberlain only weighed 190lbs at 7'0" in college and was actually a very good shooter. The pro's wanted him to bulk up so he took couple years and played with the Harlem Globetrotters and worked on building himself up. When he got to Philly he was over 300lbs. Granted he was considered probably the strongest center to have ever played and that includes Shaq, he never could shoot again. Jack Sikma the center for the Sonics in their championship year was a 6'1" guard his freshman year in college. He graduated 4 years later and 6'11" and ended up forward til converted to center. He never lost his shooting touch and even as a forward/center shot like he was a guard. Bulking up with running and weights will help in getting some weight on but continue to work on your outside game so not to lose that. Generally when one gets stronger they need to also adjust for the changes made by the increase in size and strength. I am a little over 6' and 275lbs. Former linebacker. In high school at 6'0" and 230lbs I ran a sub 4.5 40 and could bench 400lbs yet in those days if you were over 200lbs you were automatically a line man. I could out run our QB's and all but one of our WR's. No problem carrying the ball but these days things have changed so if I came along now, no problem. I could easily be a FB. Good luck in High School.

No i dont think you will be able to play Center in High school, because the game is really rough and you are a little too short to play Center in the HIgh school nature. I suggest you play either Point Guard or Shooting Guard so you really need to get your shots and passing skills up. Your freshman year you really dont have to worry about gaining alot of weight because unless you are really good you wont play Varsity....so just keep eating but dont gain fat and become slow. So just keep doing what you do but start lifting weights because it will help you in your Varsity career when you are ready to move up to that level.

get your handles better, even if they are good. all your weaknesses make them your strenghts. i would start lifting 3 to 4 times a week rotating different muscle groups. after your workouts drink protein mix it with milk. i like to add hersheys chocolate syrup. the chances are you wont be the biggest guy in high school. probally move to a sf or a pf. if you work hard anything is possible. you just got to dedicate yourself and stay out of the party seen so much. good luck kid

You better expect to grow another 2 to 6 inches before you are completely grown physically. I am from a tall family and none of us stopped growing until we were 20 to 21 yrs. old.
What ever you decide to do DON'T do it with sugar. Sugar is very destructive. You might as well start finding out the sad truth of what the "food companies" are doing to us with processed food... Start reading your labels; your looking for frutose, dextrose, sucrose etc....anything with "ose" in it.
Be healthy...and be patient you will fill out
Best regards, JM
