Make sure that you dont drink any tea or coffee before you go to bed, and have a good long soak in a nice warm bath.

Exercise in the afternoon can help you become more tired, but doing it too late in the evening can energise you and make you feel more alert, making it harder to get to sleep. Certain foods are also stimulating, especially caffeine, chocolate and anything gas producing. Keeping stress to a minimum helps also, like not watching the news before bed. If you can't get to sleep, make some warm milk, chamomile tea, or Valerian root tea. Sleepy time tea by Celestial Seasonings is soothing and helps me hit the pillow. I also got some herbs from my acupuncturist that I take that mellow me out and help me sleep like a baby. They are non addictive and very mild. I can get as many as I want and also get needles for the stress. If traditional medicine isn't working, do try alternative medicine, including trying to meditate to relax your mind and body before bedtime. Good luck!

Try some worm milk and honey. That has always worked for me and a lot of people that I know. What you do is worm up the milk and then put about 1 tablespoon full of honey, then stir until well mixed, then drink it while it is still worm. Then I hope you have a good night sleep.

It depends on what medicine you take.(Can you tell me what the name of the medication is?) It may mean that you may need to ask your doctor to increase the dose of your medicine as most sleep medication your body can build tolerances to them overtime. Or you can ask your doctor to switch medication. The reason why your doctor may only prescribe sleep aids for certain amounts of time is because most sleep medication are narcotic controlled substances that are DEA scheduled. So he limits refills to comply with federal law. (If your doctor exhausted his options on medication, try the over the counter herbal remedy Valerian root but make sure you don't do it with other medication and ask your doctor about that too). Also ask your doctor about clonidine, its non-narcotic and worked well for me.

Many doctors are quick to bury their heads in the sand when it comes to sleep problems. The experts are the psychiatrists because they work with these chemicals. My family doctor put me on Trazodone and it works well for me... it's also out of the body quickly so there's no chemical hangover in the morning. See someone who specializes in sleep. Good luck to you.

try to get a warm bath, and drink milk before go to sleep.
