She went to her doctor today and they did a blood test and it was negative. She hasn't had a period. Could it be an eptopic pregnancy, blighted ovum or a molar pregnancy. I am worried for her health because she did have that 1 positive test.

Standard medical blood tests look only for the presence of hcg hormone in the woman's blood, and if there's not a particularly large amount of it, the blood test may come up negative. A more specific test, "beta quant," actually measures for the exact amount of hcg in the blood. Anything above 5 on this test could indicate a possible pregnancy or a problem. If your friend continues to miss her period, and/or if she gets any further positive urine tests, she may want to ask her doctor to run a second blood test looking for the "beta quant" level.

I'm not a doctor, but when I had my molar pregnancy in 2001 my regular blood test came up negative, but my beta quant came up with a level of 39, indicating I was pregnant. I wasn't diagnosed with the mole until 4 weeks later, on my first ultrasound, by which time my hcg was up to 45,000.

Depending on the brand of digital test, she could have gotten a false positive. If her blood test was negative, then she wasn't pregnant. I would tell your friend to try just using the dollar tree brand. You have to pee in a cup but they're inexpensive and very accurate.

Two months ago I had a really long cycle and went to the doctor to get checked out. They did a blood pregnancy test because after having a heavier than normal period, I had nothing for a few days and spotted for a few more. I was cramping on one side and the doctor was worried about an ectopic pregnancy, but the blood test came back negative, so that meant I wasn't pregnant, and I hadn't had a miscarriage because the blood test would have been sensitive enough to detect if I had been pregnant.

I know a few women that had a blighted ovum, and they got positive pregnancy tests but didn't find out about the blighted ovum until they went in for their first ultrasound at 7-12 weeks pregnant.

With a molar pregnancy, your friend would have other symptoms that the doctor would have picked up on.

I would say she is not because if the doctor took a blood test and marked negative, mean no. and home pregnancy test lies is a 30/100 chance.

It is very rare toi get a false positive when it comes to pregnancy tests, although there are some health conditions that may cause a false positive, I say if she is worried about it she should have her doctor do an ultrasound to make sure things are ok

I had the same thing happen and i had a eptopic pregancy...tell her to take another home test and if it comes out positive go to her dr. and ask for another blood test or ultra sound.... but if the home test comes out neg. she should be in the clear.
