Legend. The music is totally different and there are more scenes. I like the version with Tangerin Dream music better.

All three Lord of the Rings movies have director's cut editions that add an hour of footage to each of the films and essentially change the shape of story. Peter Jackson, the director, said this was the way his films were truly intended to be seen.

By adding new scenes and characters, it gives a greater scope of the landscape of Middle Earth and creates entire new subplots. There are also whole characters who were cut from the films entirely, i.e., the Mouth of Sauron, because of time constraints.

They are a very worthwhile watch, but like I said, because each film has an extra hour, that makes them four hours long each.

When it is a Director's Cut, it means that it is different from the cinema edition. Depending on the edition, usually scenes that were deleted from the movie are usually included. There's usually no significant difference except that it provides detail on other scenes or events.

Sometimes there will be greater differences between say, Chinese movies released in Asia or USA. Some Chinese movies have scenes that were specially filmed for a "western" release and are not present if you watch the same movie in an Asian cinema.

Blade Runner. The original had a voice-over narration. The director's cut also was promoting the thought that Dekkert was also an Android. I didn't get much of that from the original until after they mentioned it in an interview with Ridley Scott. I still await Philip K. Dick's answer.
