I have 2 degus, and they are mother and daughter. the mother is growing very old, and its ready to die, and the daughter degu is very energetic and not even close to dying. I read that they can get depressed if they do not have a mate, and die. I'm scared that when my degu dies the other one will die too, and I will feel bad because it will not be it's time to die.

Any advice?

Hi,
I was thinking about this the other morning myself and decided that when one of mine died I would have to get the other a mate because they would be so unhappy alone.

If I couldn't do that, I would have to seriously consider finding the surviving one a new home.
They're just very sociable so I don't think a placebo like a mirror or toy would be enough.

BTW, to those people who don't know what a Degu is, see: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/65677/what_is_a_degu_and_why_you_should_own.html

You should get another mate before the other one dies. In case it does die {hope she doesent} the younger degus will have spent time with the new mate and won't feel so lonely.

Hope it helps!

Octodon degus are occasionally sold in pet stores, you may want to get your young one a mate. Ask the store associate or owner about availability.

i'm not so beneficial approximately degus, yet gerbils spend 20% of their day cleansing themselves and gerbils themselves are actually not pungent. inspite of the undeniable fact that, in case you prefer to not clean out their cage as quickly as a week, it is going to alter into quite pungent. purely interior the cage nonetheless, the stench won't like leek out into the entire abode or something. i'm noticeably beneficial the two degus and gerbils are positive with allergies. they do in comparison to airborne dirt and dust very lots the two! additionally, Carefresh bedding is the best to apply with gerbils, it has very low airborne dirt and dust and is very gentle for the little adult men.
