Yesterday I downloaded a free program from the web,(it did'nt work anyway) and I started getting pop ups for Winantivirus,vortal.com ,search-and-see.com. Also little gray boxes with warnings.
I deleted temp and internet temp folders, recycle bin, and clearing internet history, cookies, and temp files. Still getting pop-ups.

Thanks in advance for your help.

it sounds like you got some javascript stuff encoded in your programs.

I'd download ad aware from here
http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10639408.html?tag=lst-0-1

and spybot from here

update their defintions, and it may get rid of the problem for you.

I would also think of switching your internet browser from IE to Mozillia as it has an automatic popup blocker.

The little program you downloaded has wormed its way into your startup process.

The things you did, like clearing cookies, etc, while useful, did not affect this program because it is now embedded in your startup configuration, and is running as a background program.

You need to go to your STARTUP CONFIGURATION UTILITY and remove it. Go to START, then RUN, then enter "msconfig" in the box, and hit enter.

Choose the STARTUP tab, and you'll see all the programs that the computer loads into your system during startup. Those with the box checked with a green tick are loaded.

Look for the program you downloaded ( the name should be the same or similar ) and uncheck the box. Then re-start the computer.

Another option is to search for the program in your computer using the SEARCH function. It should be a xxxx.exe type program. Then simply delete it.

First, I hope you learned your lesson.

1/ Use the following tools - winpatrol (specifically their startup tab, services, and hosts file), ccleaner (checkmark EVERYTHING), superantispyware.

Your fix is in the above, and all programs are legit and free.
