Well first off Bravo, you are a great mom or dad....I monitor my son's web activity also and yes you have all the rights to do so, if he does not like it take away his internet use plain and simple. Children today don't realize the dangers of the internet nor do so parents. When did we as parents lose the battle of raising good kids. I would give him enough space but be a ready to monitor when nesscary

a 14 year old boy is bout the same as a 12, 13 ,14 year old girl. Doesn't matter if it was a boy or girl u'd still have to keep an eye.
Give him the benefit of a doubt and if he messes up then u'll be justified in whatever disciplinary action you take. Let him know you are giving him the benefit of a doubt so it will be no secret if he messes up or misuses the trust.
He could always hold it against you that you never trusted him or stuff like that.
He's a kid, you can know everything about him now but once he reaches 16, 17 you'll prob know less than half bout him than you do now and he won't feel guilty about that.
I hide a lot of things form my parents cause when I was younger they wanted to know everything, I have control issues...lol.
Now I kinda take some kind of pride in the fact that they know little about me and my life (other than the basics and usual of course)
My God I can imagine my parents monitoring me like that....PISSED OFF!!!!!
seriously do you have to do that???

Ohhh boy! I detest myspace! I also have a 14 year old and after I found out what her FRIENDS were doing on there.....I put a stop to it toot suite!
I figured out how to turn on the Parental block on the Nortons and now she can't get anywhere near that place.
The only bad thing about the parental block, if I try to Google something like say tampons (LOL) it'll block that....but its a small price to pay IMO because I just know of too many bad things that have happened because of that place.......
Good luck! Its a tricky situation....

I think it's VERY important that you monitor what he does on the internet. If he's going to delete everything he sends or receives, maybe invest in some software that records a screenshot every few seconds (or something like that). I understand your dilemma, but better safe than sorry.

Both boys and girls have to worry about some people on the net, and, unfortunatly, MySpace has become known as a place where kids hang out.
I have a 17 year old son and a 14 year old daugher. Both of them have their own computers tied into my satilite connection, and they both have MySpace pages.
I do check their MySpace pages, and they know it, but mainly, I have educated them on proper and imporoper behaivor. They are old enough to understand, and, if they don't talk to me, they do talk to each other.
It is a matter of trust and education.

He probably isnt hiding anything from you. He may have a friend who is doing stuff and he doesnt want anybody to know besides him whats going on so thats why he probably delete the messages.

I would cut down on his computer time, and Id just tell him what you know, and that if its going to be suspicious, he just cant be on there as long. I also have a 14 yr old, and we have the computer right here in the livingroom, right where I can see it at all times. That helps.*

I think you should delete his account because he is too young to have one anyway. Myspace is for people 16 and older which means he had to lie about his birthday just to sign up.

shut it down, no matter how much we think our kids are doing good most likely their up to no good, and we end up finding out the hard way or worse yet when its too late.
