They need to file papers with the IRS, and any moneys that are used for the church, including the pastor's salary are considered tax exempt, but also Cadillacs and Rolls Royces that these folks buy. However if they own money making businesses like stores or gas stations, which some do, these are not considered non profit. To me this is a big rip off and a violation of the Separation of Church and State. To be consistent politicians and political organizations should be treated in the same manner. Religious organizations have been buying up houses from individuals who who paid real estate and school taxes, however when the religious groups took over, the houses became tax exempt and stopped paying taxes. In many communities this proliferation has created a terrible problem, because schools and government's revenues were seriously depleted. Therefore I say, religious institutions should not receive tax exemptions.

Government is a non profit.
It is a deficit run entity.
Well it is supposed to be.
In the beginning it was not supposed to have surpluses, it always ran on a debt bais.
A program was thought of that needed attention to help the states and nation advance, expences for such an operation were figured out and voted upon, with a tax to pay for it included in bill.
It was for the next two year period and al the money collected must of been spent on the project and any excess was to revert back to the main fund of treasury.
Government was alloted collection of tarifffs to run its bureaucracy and all the other items had to go through congressional procedures for a vote by all the states. Military expenditures. infrastructure repairs etc.

The government of US owns nothing and even the land in Washington DC is held in commons by the peoples of US and it was felt that by making it a district, governed under Admiralty law, it would not be swayed by being situated in any state.

man do you realize theres only like 55 trillion in personal wealth in this country. Thats basically everyone cashes in everything and above and beyond their regular taxes etc. They donate 1/5 of what they have left for the deficit to pay it off. 10 trillion dollars is an absolute joke!! The world is taking notice dont worry about them the dollar falls constantly against all currencies despite all the assurances our economy is on track!!

The government doesn't have any money. They pay out alot more than they take in. That's why we have a national debt that just keeps going up.

Unfortunately they are not a not for profit organization. They would be more closely related to a corporation if anything. I don't know how much you pay in taxes, but they are definitely for profit.

Daddy doesn't get allowance.

Government is the taker, not the payer...so they are not tax payers., they are tax collectors. Therefore, they cant be issued a non-profit exemption.
