I know there's several types of businesses and many titles for administrative figures who govern them. What I want to know is what the title would be for the owner of a family-ran business in which ownership is passed down to "hiers." I'm guessing an enterprise would be the actual type of business, please correct me if I am wrong...

The different types of businesses are sole proprietorships, partnerships, and corporations. "Family run" does not mean anything as to the type of business that is organized. A sole proprietorship is owned by one and only one person. A partnership is two or more owners. A corporation actually makes the business a separate person that will go on forever, or until someone dissolves the corporation. The corporation may be public, selling stock to the general public, or private, where the all the stock is held by only a few people like the founders, or by the corporation itself.

BTW, an enterprise describes any business.

I guess it all depends on how big the family business is. I'm not sure but I'm guessing it would be a self-employed small business or if it is a large company than a self-employed franchise perhaps, not sure hope this has been of some help to you, cheers
