Racism is not the same as not accepting the gay lifestyle. I do not accept gay behavior and never can because it is immoral.

Have you not heard of "gay bashing" many gay people have been brutilly beaten, raped and killed based on who they are attracted to. Believe it or not, people cannot help being gay. As much as people want to disagree with this, it is true. Sexual orientation is based in your DNA and is not a "choice." If it were, I am sure the people who are killed, beaten, raped and threatened because of this would just stop doing it. As for hiding it. They can't do that either. How would they be able to do that? By marring someone and living thier life as an unhappy lie?
So yes, in a way hatred of gays in the "new racism." Slavery ended over 100 years ago. The hatred that they are encountering today is real and current. The hatered and the deaths, struggles and tortures of blacks ended a lot longer ago.
To not see the similarities between the two is a bit self centered. How can you expect people to understand thier pain, if you cannot step outside of your self long enough to understand thiers?

Because both types of prejudice are based on the same principle. One group (a group with some sort of control, power, or perceived superiority) subjugates another group that is deemed inferior. It's the same issue. And don't think for a minute that gays have not been tortured, killed and struggled to claim identity and acceptance. Because the root of the prejudice is the same, the struggles have been similar (the right to marry, integration into the military, etc.) In fact, in many ways, it is more difficult for gays because they typically don't even share a common culture with their families, they don't have a common or shared ancestry and are often unable to "pass" as you are suggesting. If they do successfully pass, then they end up living a life full of lies and self hatred. (Incidentally, many people of ethnic ancestry have been able to pass, but that doesn't make the fact that they HAD to pass acceptable).

Honestly, I don't know. I was wondering myself. I think if a person is born gay, then they may have an argument. But if a person chooses to be gay, then they have no justification.
Because it's easy to hide being gay and I don't think anyone ever accused a black person of being immoral because they were born black.

Ever hear of gay bashing? Racism is also prejudice. There is a ton of it towards different races, sexualities, zip codes, professions, handicaps and religions to name a few. Your ignorant remark about how you can't hide or help is true for homosexuals as well.
It's about time people, all people, start minding their own business and stop whining. I myself am handicapped and that didn't prevent me from achieving my goals as a Firefighter / Paramedic, father and husband. 50% of any battle is in your head. Blaming others is a cop-out, plain and simple.

Because either way, it is discrimination. Gay people can't help or sometimes even hide the fact that they are gay. People should not be treated differently for something they can't help. I'm surprised that a woman of color wouldn't understand that.

You can't hijack discrimination just because you feel like it. You're being just as ignorant as the people who discriminate against others in the first place. Being gay is often hard to hide for some people and many gays have been targeted in hate crimes and been murdered. It is SO insensitive for you demean them by saying that they haven't suffered! I'm Hispanic and I don't think that people treat gays any better than people of color are treated in this country.

Surely both groups have gone through their own trials, some more than others unfortunately, but the hatred does compare. Hate derived from skin color or lifestyle, or religion or belief is ignorant and intolerable.

Hate is hate. Its the same, and its different. You do not want to support ANY hate because if the haters can isolate the groups they hate they can destroy them one by one. Gays today, Jews tomorrow, Blacks after that. You have to stand against ALL hate and never allow yourself to be used by the haters because you can bet on it--they will eventually come for YOU.

i agree. hatred of gays is less bad because, whether people support or dissaprove of gay behavior, they actually made that choice and it actually has something to do with their brain and personality. racism is hate for something no one can control.
so basically i think they are two very different things.
