Gesualdo was quite the character. Married his cousin and killed people.
The music itself... My list of favorite power music:
The beginning of the last mvt of Bruckner 8. The whole mvt gets pretty repetitative, but you get the point in the first minute.

The Tuba Mirum in the Verdi and Berlioz Requiems.

Okay, after making a brief favs list, Mahler rises to the top of the list. My vote is for Mahler based on music, and Gesualdo based on his life.
