It looks that way. I think he's stupid for doing so, the only thing he could possibly gain from this is the loss of fans. Sometimes songs sound similar, that doesn't mean they plagiarized. Tom Petty should appreciate the fact that he's worth imitation, and get over it. He's already rich, why dose he need to sue people?

The beginning of Dani California is the exact same chords as the beginning to Last Dance with Mary Jane. I haven't heard that he is going to sue, but I hear what he is talking about.

I listened to both songs, side by side.

I skipped past the intro on the Petty song and then aligned the "drum intro" on both songs.

though there some Very slight similarities. there is no grounds in my opinion to enter into litigation.

if he did go that route, I'm sure he would not prevail.

I haven't heard about this, but if he's sueing because he feels they have plagarized him, then he SHOULD sue, even if he's already rich. They have no right to copy his music.
