At first I can't figure out any MMORPG will beat WoW at least for next 2 years.
But if you are looking for some great MMORPG, Granado Espada will be the best game for u, I will explain to u later. At first u can take a look at some screenshots and gametrailers.
Photo Channel: http://photo.mmosite.com/granadoespada/
Game Trailers: http://video.mmosite.com/game_vm.php?gid=79
As the Winner of the 2006 Grand Award for Best Game in Korea. All that I can say is AMAZING. The game has the most innovative gameplay nowadays and funny quest, moreover u can control 3 characters at one time. In WA, it's going to be b2p rather than p2p.
Game Title: Sword of the new world (aka Granado Espada)

2 games that i have really enjoyed
DAoC: mostly PvP .. but you can join the PvE server ( Gaheris ), for only player content and noone trying to slay your toon ( big plug, i like the players their also )
City of Heros/Villians: mostly PvE and an all out fun game to play if all ya got is a few minutes to play when ya log on. true there is some PvP content, but if thats not your " cup of tea" it's easily avioded. ( plus have the best characture generation system of any MMO on the market.
i've freind that have played WoW... and from what I've seen .. id play either DAoC or CoX long befor WoW.

WoW doesn't have to be PvP. I played on an RP server, and I never got into a PvP fight. However, by default, WoW can't be better than itself without breaking some sort of mathematical law.

Guild Wars is a lot of fun, but tehcincally is a peer to peer game, and most people get into it for late game PVP.
Eve Online is a lot of fun too. But it has a very heavy PVP compent and it is not optional if you stray out of the high security systems.
PVP player versus player.
