What is the new land? He circumnavigated the world and stopped at many places. It wasn't affected much anywhere though, besides creating new trade routes to Spain (that's where he was from right?). He claimed many spices from the Philippines but I don't recall any major differences anywhere he stopped recorded in my AP world history books. To BS through it tell basically that and that he was responsible for the maps that his country used to sail for new trade routes, and that Spain had an impact on those cultures.

Yes, because people realized they could trade for items they couldn't before. Therefore, the new items these people had access to changed there day to day lives.
