For fun, look up Hertz's work on his Hertzian waves. He came up with the idea that his waves might be related to light. If that were so, he figured, you could do the same things to them as we do to light and it would work the same. Like polarize them. by golly, he was right. It is an interesting read because you can see how his mind jumped forward and basically uncovered the sameness of the electromagnetic spectrum.
