I have a test tomorrow in chem. and I need help with these 4 things:
1. Dilusion- How do you calculate it?
2. What does the term "Like dissolves like" mean in chemistry?
3.What are some examples of solute solvent combos...which is which?
4. Which has the most kinetic energy: solid, liquid, or gas

An answer to any of the 4 would be great : ]
Thanks

1. I hope your test paper is better spelled than your question. This is probably DILUTION. If you have a solution which is q molar in compound Q, and it is diluted by a ratio of 1 volume solution to p volumes of solvent, the ratio is the DILUTION ratio, and the final concentration is q/(1+p) molar.

2. This is a general observation that substances which are similar in structure dissolve in each other than do dissimilar substances.

3. If a solution of A in water is created, A is the solute which is added to the solvent (water)

4. The vapor form (gas) has the highest kinetic energy for a given mass of a substance.

2) "Like dissolves like" means that a substance will be dissolved the best in something that is similar in polarity. Polar solvents dissolve polar compounds best, and nonpolar solvents dissolve nonpolar compounds best.

3) NaCl and H2O
NaCl is the solute and H2O is the solvent
