For an apartment you mean? It varies, sometimes it's 1 deposit per household, sometimes it's 1 deposit per pet. Some places also charge monthly pet rent in addition to the deposit.

Depends on your state. Look up the laws, but I doubt that there are limits. It probably depends on what kind of dwelling you are living in, and what it would cost to replace things that the animal destroys. Just because you have a deposit, does not mean that is the maximum they will charge you for damages.

When I was helping in apartment managing, we charged a $250 cat deposit. 99% of the time there was well over $1,000 in damages, that just covered the carpeting...

Are you referring to the amount a landlord may chage when renting to someone with a pet? He can and will charge whatever the traffic will allow. In other words, as long as someone is willing to pay they will charge. Now, if you mean my dog is getting ready to open an account cuz he keeps making a deposit-lol that's another story - good luck -k-

You have several options, find a home for the pet, pay the pet deposit (they can charge what they like, they own the property) OR you can rent elsewhere.

You question is rather vague. If you are talking about the buying and selling of pets then it is up to the breeder to decide what will be charged for a deposit.

Everything should be spelled out in a written contract so each party knows what is expected from the other

I'm not sure.It has to do with your land lord.Right now we only have to pay $20 a month for our cats. But at other places it may go up to $150 deposit! It all depends. You do know you could just keep your pet a secret right? And when your land lord comes to check things out keep your pet at a trusted friends. That's what we did until we moved.lol.

It's sad that they charge a deposit for pets and not for children. Aren't children more destructive and messy than a pet?

a deposit can only be a maximum of half of your monthly rent. it's usually between one quarter and hal of the rent.
