I've read that memory begins when we can understand speech & can speak it. Otherwise we have no way of re-membering events. So the age varies from child to child.

Everyone's a little different. I have a memory of holding onto my crib bars and looking at our cat when he was a kitten, and I would have had to be around 1 at the time. Also a few memories of being 2 and a policeman telling my mom I was cute. (I've loved men in uniform ever since LOL). But those memories are like still pictures. The serious movie-like memories start around age 3 or 4.

I think after 3 or 4 years, we start to gain memory because our mind has matured. I still remember thinks when I was 4 years old. It also depends on what the memory is. If there was something tragic going in your life when your 2 years old, I think you would remember it. My mom remembers some things when she was 2. Our memory becomes better as we get older because of school and the mind exercises we do in school.
