i'm learning and I need to know. its a crate bx-15, got it for my b-day, from a yardsale [a musician who played christian music was selling it, with the guitar. the amp works fine, a little staticky though. will a distortion pedal work with it? or should i piss of my parents [who think theres no diffrence] and ask for or save up for another one which could take months...years even.

You should be fine playing a guitar through a small bass amp such as this...just don't get carried away with the volume or the amp will fry :) A distortion pedal will be fine too.
