Since I'm from the Northern USA, i can answer this easily.
I have a friend who relocated from Chicago to Seattle and she LOVES it. It's beautiful and there's tons of nature! A little tricky with the weather as it does rain a lot (similiar to London weather). My sisters boyfriend went to school in Montana and LOVED how everything was rugged and full of mountains and beautiful landscapes. If you have children, they would love this area in Michigan called Michigainia or in Wisconsin.....Wisconsin Dells (great places for kids...and adults!) I'm originally from Chicago, which I can't wait to move back to (am living in London now). Chicago has tons to offer and it's not as expensive as New York. I haven't spent much time in New England so can't really comment on that area. Hope this helps!
