If I smiled at you and said hello, would you smile and say hello back?

Or would you walk past me without saying a word?

Why of course, that's common courtesy.
My mom raised me better than that!

But she also raised me to avoid crazy people. If you look crazy, I might walk by without a word.

I'd say hello and depending on how pressed for time I was, I might initiate some kind of conversation.
