Yes. My husband's feet and my young son's feet stank so bad that I would have dry heaves. The foot doctor gave them medication to rub on their feet and the odor vanished and never returned. You do need a foot specialist.

I'm assuming that you've talked to him about cleanliness and hygeine and that is not the issue here. If he cleans himself and takes care of his feet with clean socks, powder, maybe an antifungal spray etc, and things still aren't better, then it may be a medical condition. The first possibilty might be a bacterial infection and for whatever reason, no matter how much he washes, he doesn't get it all. This could simply be that he is a teenager going through all the hormone ups and downs that are common at that age and the bacteria are thriving on the acidic and salty conditions that this causes. If that is ruled out, there is the rare possibilty that he has a metabolic condition which causes his body to produce abnoraml amount of the amine called Trimethylaminuria. This is associated with a fish or rotting flesh smell than can be devastating to an individuals social life. Check out this link for more info: http://dmd.aspetjournals.org/cgi/reprint/29/4/517.pdf
Good luck, and let him know that it does get better, some people just have to work a little extra hard at it.

From doctor's book of home remedies:
Change his shoes every day- have a couple or three pairs so they can air out in between. Maybe he could change his socks twice a day.
Use foot spray/talcum power
use deodorant soap on his feet, it's bacteria that are smelling (just like armpits get smelly). He'll have to wash his feet every morning. Antibacterial surgical scrub is stronger, will kill the bacteria even better. Ask a pharmacist.
He can watch what he eats-like too much garlic, fish, cumin, curry
Use antiperspirant on his feet. Try odor eaters insoles.
If his soles are white with little pits, that is a condition called pitted keratolysis, which is like acne and treated the same.

it is probably a fungus infection. Wash the feet well morning and evening making sure to get between the toes. after washing feet pour hydrogen peroxide over them pat dry well. clean socks EVERY day. leather shoes if possible they let the feet breath. Take out liners in what ever kind of shoes and let air over night. Keep feet from sweating by spraying an antiperspirant on the bottom. Sounds complicated but should only have to do this for a week then go to clean socks and spray feet every day. Good luck If the odor continues take to a doctor.

Apparently soaking them in mouthwash will kill whatever is causing the stank-foot.
